Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums and joined as I received an older table and chair set. Not sure it's 'antique'... On the back, left and right, bottom of the arch, there are snap clips and am very curious what they would have been used for, or if a previous owner added these at some point. The upholstery needs to be redone. Each chair of the 6 has its own character and am thinking of leaving them as is, maybe just clear coat. I'm not great at refinishing this type of chair, especially with the cane back,if that is what it is. Any input to those clips would be appreciated. I've googled the crap out of it and nothing difinative has answered. Pics included...
No help here on the snaps, maybe just a unique fastening device. The chairs remind me of the cane back fruitwood/pecan finish chairs of the 1970's. I have seen these chairs, including the cane, finished in a metallic silver with a high gloss black table. Could be stunning in the right setting.
Not a bad idea for refinish. Thanks. Currently, the table has tons of surface swirls. Easy to reclear coat. No big dents or scratches. Just in the thought process... Here are a few pics of the table
Hi, Very 1970s. Snaps were to hold a "pillow for the back. A lot of people do not like the caning. The snaps held the backing in place. greg
