Featured I need info/potential value of this watch

As I said in my theodolite thread I'm posting a picture of a watch which possibly has gems Incorporated. It's an old watch which my mother got from her aunt(now she would be older than 100 years). Her husband was a sailor and he got that watch from some of his journeys.

I'm interested if someone can tell me more info about it. I searched aetos geneve but couldn't find much. It says something about rubis too but I'm not sure if it refferes to the mechanics or to the gems which might be rubies by the colour.

Here is the watch

 

17 rubis refers to bearings in the watch. The watch itself is worth maybe five dollars. Probably from the 1950s or so. The bracelet may or may not have more value. Better pictures are needed.

Are there any markings on the bracelet?

 

nice bracelet......is it gold...are those real stones.......I'd say there's more than 5 bucks worth here....

My guess is rhinestone and gold-filled. It would be easier if we could see the marks on the back of course! The stones look glued in, and that's almost a guarantee of costume jewelry.

 

The stones are mounted with claws. They look like paste though.
It looks like there is a bit of verdigris on the watch case, near the five.
But even with paste stones and gold-filled/plated, it is worth more than $5.

 

Alas, since it's a lady's watch, maybe not much more. Men are the watch addicts, and they tend to go after the men's versions.

Sadly it is very true about the lack of interest in women's watches. Also with an obscure maker and a likely low quality movement you would not find a watch repairman willing to do repairs in the event of mechanical issues.

 

I have a lady's watch sitting here with a 14k band, hallmarked as such. I'm going to end up melting it, first to avoid Feedbag, and second because it doesn't run and the brand sells for about scrap even when it does. If it's a Patek Philippe or marked for retail by Tiffany that's another ball game, but a random maker doesn't go for much.

 

I have 2 of moms watches.....seiko..& Tissot....one gold...one gold with diamonds and sapphires ...matching brooch and earrings............do I havta melt them too ?

It would, but right now it looks like the stones are not gemstones.

 

Usually when melting this sort of thing the stones go in the pot with the case or band. They are just too small to have any real value.
You can buy mixed lots of tiny stones, rubies, diamonds etc. for what seem remarkably low prices given the value of large stones. Trouble is the value of large stones is more in the size than the material. Big is rare, tiny is not.

 

Aetos became part of SSIH, a big Swiss producer of Omega, Tissot and other watches. SSIH merged with ASUAG to become SMH, which is now Swatch.
