    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    Wowwwwwwwwwwwwww!
    Wonderful.
I SO admire beautiful makeovers like that.
And the fact on top of that... that it's done with re-claimed, old, authentic stuff.... great.
I like to think all the old bits and pieces are happy to be united in a beautiful piece like that.

    Thank you :)
I always use antique materials and love doing that.
That's a nice way of thinking about....I always think it's recycling on a grand scale :)

Braid though is hard to find in large quantities for these larger projects so I think it's acceptable to use whats available as long it fits in with the era :)

Beautiful work Ivy !! I do hand sewing myself .. restoring old silk and cotton, linen and wool items, I KNOW the time and patience it takes to bring things back to their former glory .. Very Well Done I must say .. Joy.

I bet some of that old fabric is delicate, maybe hard to sew. I recall somewhere somebody was saying that old textiles can be toughened up by spraying them with ... what... hairspray? Or was it fabric softener?

That wasn't too bad but some just fall apart.
I haven't heard of that, I'll have to Google it:)

Did you save the old fabric? I could see that back piece framed, even cut in 2 and framed twice.

Stash and use as needed, or just hoard and gloat? I buy some old damaged bridge tablecloths, linens etc that were hand embroidered and add them to baby quilts and the like. One crazy quilt square that had to be 100 years old got framed out and given to a friend for Christmas. It's better to recycle pieces like that than to let them fall apart in an attic.

The first part but I do like to look at them too and hate cutting into them :)

On the other hand, if a piece is torn or stained, sometimes you do whatcha gotta. I'm going to recycle a Jewish prayer shawl eventually to, i.e. a tallis. When they're worn or stained, and in this case the owner was deceased, the fringe thingies have to be cut off the corners. That way the shawl is no longer a prayer shawl and can be recycled. (The fringes get buried.) They're often either wool or silk. This one is going to end up sandwiched inside a baby quilt eventually.
