Hi all,
I bought this Victorian Prayer Chair about a week ago, The needlepoint looks in the photos to be in reasonable condition but its very worn and faded, also the velvet although it has been there a long time isn't original.
From the start I thought the shape at the front of the seat didn't look right and sure enough someone had added to the horsehair on the front to make the needlepoint fit (I took it off).
I added a layer of wool and linen to even up the seat.

So the black fabric I used was once part of a Victorian skirt, the Victorian needlepoint was once a pelmet or a strip down a curtain.
The red velvet braid is modern that I bought especially for the chair but its lovely.
Finally I polished the legs with Briwax which brought them up beautifully.

Yes I kept it all and may get a cushion or two out of it....
I love being able to salvage something from a project
