My Girlfriend found this and was going to throw it away, so I thought I would take it. From just my quick Google search it appears to be more on the rare side. Just wondering how much it may be worth.

    Hi, Warwagon.

Where on earth did your gf "find" that?

Other than doing research, I highly doubt you'll find someone here that knows the value. Most ppl here are collectors and enthusiasts and not valuation experts.

There have been some that sold on, where else? eBay. Maybe someone will show up that has a Worthpoint account to see what others have sold for, or you can get a free trial and find out yourself. Here are two:

My girlfriend got it from her sister I have no idea where her sister got it her sister does a lot of auctions so it may have been included in a box of stuff she got at a house auction.

I’ve read it might make a giger counter make a title noise
I've read information that says no.

First Worthpoint item sold for $356 in September of 2017, and the second went for $261 in August of 2017.

    Hi,
I have a piece of uranium rock collected years ago. It still makes Geiger counters go crazy. I keep it in lead foil I am afraid to throw it away and contaminate where I toss it.

I'm sure you can contact the local council and they will help you dispose of it correctly. If I had that it would be out of the house ASAP.

    Thanks for looking those up!

It appears you may have worthpoint paid account. Don't mean to use you but could you tell me how much this went for?

    I'm guessing around $400 - $500

Definitely doesn't feel like there is a lot of them floating around.

These were given out at least by Argonne National labs outside of Chicago. The remains of CP-1 are buried there. I have an identical one (I don't think there's many). It was my greatgrandfather's, who worked at Argonne as (I think) a grounds keeper of some sort.

    Definitely a girl-friend worth having.

My brother-in-law brought home two officer's dress swords from Japan, and a few years ago he used to go to schools and talk about his wartime experience. One teacher brought a Geiger counter into the schoolroom and off it went at fast rate. He was banned from using the props forevermore.

    Beware.

So ironic. I was given one when I was a kid by my parent who works at Argonne. I was obsessed with it since ANL doesn’t really give them out anymore and it had sentimental value. Well one day 15 years later, I set it on our coffee table at home after showing some coworkers that day. The wife was cleaning later that day, didn’t know what it was, and tossed it. It literally keeps up at night lol. I’m determined to get another one day regardless of how much..
