Featured Girl with Peacock Feather and broom? painting

    Wondering how old you guys think it is? I’m guessing 1885-1910 or so. Also what is the head dress/hat called that she is wearing? Looks like a kippah but I’m guessing it something else. Is that indeed a broom she is holding? Peasant girl/maid?

    Probably isn't but it did make me wonder if it might be from one of tales of the Firebird/Falcon with Maryushka the peasant girl.

    The hat she is wearing looks Norwegian. Maybe someone knows of a Norwegian folk tale similar to the Maryushka tale (Firebird)?

    Ah... There we go. A history painting, not genre as described on auction site. Must have been a popular image in its time. And, always so interesting to compare an original with copies. Makes one see why "good" painters are good.

    Funny. I misread the broom in JD's version as being one for a chimney & Cinderella crossed my mind. But she kept on going because I couldn't reconcile the red cap, peacock feather, & overall cleanliness with that story, so she kept on going.

    The red cap may just be an artistic device to draw the eye to the sitter's face.

    I thought I updated this a while ago but ended up selling for 3.5x my buy price. Went hours after listing, so that was nice.
