Well, I don't really see 1/2, but I'll take your word for it. I wouldn't know style difference from 1850 to 1970. Shame on me!

Poked around a bit, but didn't find any others like yours, even using more appropriate descriptions like 'ewer', 'pitcher' or 'jug', and including 'baltic amber' or 'polish/poland amber' - have seen similar size pieces, but all found in a quick search were cups & saucers, goblets, dishes and bowls, etc., along with chess sets and small figurines, and of course, the ubiquitous jewelry. Most items were new at retail and coming from Poland or Russia, and believe that the majority of larger items, like yours, are pressed amber pieces.

This cup/saucer/spoon set is from a seller in Torun, Poland, noting 'production' requiring 2-3 weeks: http://de.dawanda.com/product/15663638-Baltic-Amber-Tea-Set-Antique#product_description

The Hermitage Museum shop has a number of amber holloware items, including the same cup as above, so maybe the Polish seller is getting it from Russia, or the museum shop is bringing in stock from Poland: https://www.hermitageshop.org/decoration/amber-ware/

My guess would be chunks of amber in some kind of resin. If it's relatively heavy for the size, that would settle it. Amber tends to be fairly light.

oaAmber sinks in fresh water and floats in saturated salt water, I am told, although I have never been able to make it work convincingly.

    Hi,
I was only being hesitent for a reason. A Polish friend brought me back an amber and silver tree from that period. She paid a lot or it and knows the difference. The marks were like this one but it turned out not to have any silver, well it had a silver wash and the tree and branches looked like the handle in the first photos. The amber leaves were amber on some of them, the others were some sort of plastic. Iwona was very apologetic about it but as I told her. It was the unrest and polical changes that were happening then in the late 70s early 80s. During that time the old style Soviet thinking was clashing with the new changes. I really am uneasy with a lot of things being made and sold during the period. With a little heat amber gives off the pine/turpentine odor. The plastics have a chemical smell. When I took off the leaves and dropped them into salted water some sank and some floated. The amber floats.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I saw the rebuilt Amber Room once. It's pretty amazing. I wish I could have seen the original.

Doesn't real amber feel like plastic or resin as opposed to glass or stone? That's what I've been told.
