Purchased this piece and have no idea what I have. It has been completely stripped down completely. Piece is over 8' tall and over 5' wide. Any help would be appreciated!

Hummm, carving seems fairly new to me, the upper doors hinges aren't consistent with this kind of furniture, and the lock is smaller than the gap in the wood where it is inserted...
Are you sure it has been stripped? There is no apparent remains of a staining or paint in the gaps

    My first thought 1970s-80s.
    Hardware could have been switched.
I would call it French style, but I might be wrong. Only my thoughts.

It doesn't look awfully old to me either.

It appears to be an early 20th C library bookcase, stripped to within an inch of its life.

    That's the style, anyway.

Agree with AF. European in origin. Some French details but doesn't scream French to me. Could just as well be Italian or Eastern European. Wood looks like beech.

    Hi,
Looks like the wood was stripped in a hot tank and sanded. I only used the hot dip tank for metal items. The first wood desk I had stripped looked like this and was a real pain trying to restore. it was big business in the 1960s. I learned a big lesson with that desk. All of my stuff was hand done after that first mistake.

Yeah, sometimes referred to as "skinned"

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

What I see are only a minimal few spots of what looks to be white or light residual paint.....maybe set in deeply.....but not much, that's for sure!!! Hey!! To each his own!!! Don't know how it would take a stain though............THAT might be difficult!!!!

I'd have to see the back and joint details, but it looks new to me We bought an unfinished armoire for our bedroom with nearly the same carving and key. It was made in 1995. Can you show closeups of the details on the joints and back?

This stripped look was popular in the late 80s-early 90s. Usually saw it on European pine armoires. There was one company that bought them by the container load, stripped them, and converted them to entertainment centers.

There is a store here in town that still does it.
They bring it in, strip it, take it apart and rebuild new pieces for a modern look.
