Dunno what this is. I am confident that it was by Charles Thomas and George Fox, London, with a date code of 1852. Looks like a combination of a perfume bottle and a stopper for a decanter?? Whatcha all think?

Not that I've ever seen one, but it looks like it should be part of a vanity set with frame. Like a table condiment set. The bottom is too short to be a stopper, but would be appropriate for setting into some sort of frame.

Hmmm. I've stared & stared at that base "stub", and like Bakers, I can't imagine that it's long enough to sit securely in a bottle or anything similar.

Is there any chance that there was once a silver "collar" or ring around that bottom part? Sort of like this, but not as tall, of course:

Just looked at what the marks site says about the Fox firms "items found on" and they don't mention vanity type items. But they do have several things of the "desk set" variety. What does the inside space look like to you? Any chance this could be an ink holder?

An ink well or holder does seem plausible :)

I think it is an ink well, perfume bottles usually have a smaller top opening with a stopper under the silver lid.
Part of a desk set makes sense.

Yup, ink bottle. I've seen a fair few like that.

I think it is an Inkwell - but the marks are confusing are they not? Like someone attached a different bottom and top to the glass?
