Mask / face carving - stone - perhaps volcanic?

Not sure where this originates from - hoping someone will recognize it - seems to be carved from some type of dark volcanic stone - I believe the front is painted black - the back shows more of the stone texture. Tapping it give a ceramic almost glassy"tink" sound. About 12" high and 5" wide. Found it at a local pet rescue charity shop.

Side shot and hopefully clearer pic of the back texture.

Are the bubbles on the back from being cast/molded? It really feels like stone to me but obviously I'm a rookie :)

Thanks - I'm guessing it's some kind of cast pot metal then - as it really makes a nice ping when you tap it.

Possibly; but there are a number of compounds used for casting that are largely plaster or resin, and many of these also have quite a "ring" when tapped.
The presence of bubbles is a better indicator of a cast item than the ring, or the feeling of weight or coldness that is often mentioned. Identification of the precise casting medium is not always easy, unless the item is recognized as coming from a particular casting firm.
It is surprisingly common for cast items in resin, plaster, or other composition, (sometimes with a topcoat of another material for gloss, color, and hardness) to be identified as carvings in stone, wood, or metal.
