Hand painted/carved necklace Bakelite?

Not sure if this item belongs in this thread. Anyone know origin?

 

It looks like a De Grazia. Or De Grazia-inspired. Fairly recent -- 1970s maybe -- and likely good ol' plastic.

Not bakelite. It might be some sort of acrylic made to look like a slice of deer antler.

 

Looks like a slice of a tagua nut.

 

De Grazia did do those. But research would have to be done to determine if yours is his or copy.

How can I find out if mine is real or copy?

 

Well, I'd start by comparing. Does the image appear to be his or done in his style? Did he always sign his pieces? Did he ever put his pendants on a red lanyard? And even... was he copied at all? Sure lots of information to be found on his web site.

I am finding De Grazia signed all of his work. I am still having a problem finding what it is drawn on. It has the look of Ivory and feel of Bakelite.

 

Given it is a 1970s De Grazia knock-off, it's almost a certainty that it was executed on a plastic of some type.

I gave one almost exactly like this one (slightly different girl). I sent a pic to the de grazia Facebook page (they still have store) and was told it is replica done in the 1970s. I love mine!
