    Hi everyone,
I’m new here and been looking around for weeks trying to find out the answers to where this ring came from. It’s at least as old as my great great grandfather, but that’s all I know! Any ideas please?

Welcome, AliC. Appears to be English in origin, but we may be able to tell you more if you take another picture that shows the marks to the left of the 375 as clearly as 375 and ff. There appear to be 2 of them.

Thanks for your help so far! I’m finding it difficult to get my camera to focus on the marks 69AFCD9B-1C4D-455F-811F-C7891D5E9540.jpeg

Maybe the mark that looks like Chester town mark has been worn more than the ones to its right, but normally the pointed part of the shield contains only 1 sheaf of wheat, not 2, and the sword (?) is at the flat top of the shield. I don't see another alternative that would be better, though, and blame it on wear.

I'm sure it was, but we don't know when he lived.;) It is lovely to have an heirloom like that though.

The shank was broken and still is.

    What does this mean please?

The shank was cracked/broken at some point, someone tried to repair it but the solder only filled part of the crack.

That would make sense as it’s a men’s ring yet it’s very small in size. Doesn’t fit my 15 year old son.

Why do you need to know where he lived? This comment doesn’t make sense to me. Am I missing something?

Aj said we don’t know WHEN he lived, so the date we found may or may not make sense.

It is a signet ring, some are worn on the pinky.
