Basket Origin, Age, Use

I know nothing about baskets, but I'm guessing it might just be a modern decor item based on how little usage it appears to have had. It is 12" tall and 10" across the top.

Thanks in advance for any information or opinions on its origin, age and use.

Not an item I'm familiar with.....

Sooo.....cane or rattan....plant fiber rope...may be palm.....or some thick grass...
a lot of nails for such a basket....some turning black..shows a combo of age & humidity...
I'm going to venture a guess at a Chinese connection.

 

To hold a bottle of wine?

 

Ooh, that's a plausible suggestion. The dimensions of the basket whittle down the options of what it is used for and wine bottle seems quite likely.

 

But why would you want to put a bottle of wine in a basket unless it fits?

 

I have a cousin to your "basket" @tie.dye.cat . Oval-shaped and with a handle on the 2 short ends. Got it at a yard sale for a buck or two. It holds the "already dealt with but needs to be kept" mail. I'm pretty sure it had a little "Made in China" sticker on the bottom (now long gone.)

 

True Any Jewelry. It would be too large for the standard 750ml wine bottle.

Thanks Bakersgma. I should have known by the lack of wear on it that it was newer. Fortunately, it only cost a buck and it's interesting enough to me to keep for myself.
