Your Taj Mahal reminds me of a story. I took a college baking course and made a gingerbread house. My dad's parents had a bakery in Philly, and he just had to outdo me. He built a huge gingerbread church and melted candy for stained glass windows. Then he rigged a light in it. It was close to the size of your Taj Mahal.

I love your find. Show it to us when you put the lights in!

Some fun picks from two $avers today. A silver ginbari vase, a really cool old bronze Knight “dragons fire” glass torch, 6 Hotchkiss & Schreuder coin silver spoons, a Webb tea ball and rest (missing the chain & hook on the rest), a nice old bronze and nickel lighthouse lamp ($avers cut the original silk cord off!) and a 1950s Civil Air Defense helmet. All for under $50.

I am trying to limit my treasure-hunting to two days a week (I have many projects I have to tackle on things already found.) I went thrifting one day this week, and then I went antiquing one day, yesterday.

I saw this little doll for a whole $8 (dolls are my second passion, you guys know the first) and it was love at first sight. She reminded me of the Terri Lee dolls, but I have never seen one in person, only online. Here she is:
    Mary Jane Doll 1 (260x640).jpg
    Mary Jane Doll 2 (311x640).jpg
    Mary Jane Doll 3 (640x619).jpg
She is in very good shape, the eyebrow is not missing paint, just a reflection, and the red mark on the right side of her face looks like, of all things, a lipstick print. Hair great, just needs a light cleaning.

She was the first thing I researched when I got home. This is who she is:

1953-1954 Freydberg Mary Jane doll, 17" tall, all hard plastic more slender body than Terri Lee, wigged, sleep flirty eyes, closed wider mouth than Terri Lee, head turning walker, clone of the Terri Lee doll, Mary Jane is an unmarked doll, made by G. H. & E. Freydberg, Inc. and Kathryn Kay Toy Kreations, Inc. owned by Kathryn Fassel. Terri Lee successfully protected their Terri Lee doll copyright and won the suit in 1954, all Mary Jane doll molds and any finished product was then destroyed, the company restructured with a new Mary Jane doll product and new name of Togs and Dolls.

Here is a link, for reference ONLY, not my auction, that shows her in a store ad:

I love a good find mystery, so if you every see this doll, grab her. She is actually more rare than a Terri Lee doll.

Such a disconcerting mix of adult face & child body. Which movie star does she remind me of?

I see Bette Davis. I saw a tagged Mary Jane dress online yesterday that matched the plaid trim on the panties she wears, can't find it today. Her clothing is impossible to find.

Here she is dressed in what was her original clothing.

I love Terri Lee dolls. Another Holy Grail item on my list. Saw the cutest boxed repro of one in an antique mall yesterday.

I hung my wash on the clothes line, and it is so humid it's not drying... temps in the 90s again, looks like rain on top of it. So here are some pictures of finds from the thrifts.
This really wants to be cherry amber or cherry amber bakelite, but it is neither.

Found these nice bits at today's car boot sale. Not deserving of their own post as its doubtful there's any age to them but I thought they were nice.

60s? style bracelet, no marks. One of the panels has a crack in it but other then that very nice condition. Fits perfectly and takes on different colors depending on what you're wearing.

A nice set of blue/grey beads, I'm assuming glass. Are they glass or stone? They 'chink' when you tap them together, fair bit of weight to them, cold to the touch but not extremely so. A couple of the beads have small cracks in them but they're not noticeable. Shame they're not older!

All in all not bad for $1.50 :hilarious:
