this was something i bought at a local auction house from online bidding, couldnt really see it well but still happy for what i paid for it (£5)

not exactly fine art, but has a little charm about it

seems more of a quick sketch

hard to judge age as its been remounted and glued (no frame)

was sold as a watercolour, but thinking not as there are parts that have layers of paint, gouache ? oil ?

i seeing the signature as C H, but might be wrong

    measures 6 1/2 by 10 1/2

    any thoughts appreciated

It is sweet, charlie. Looks like a gouache, and the painter is either professional or an accomplished amateur.

It is lovely, a hint of early morning mist, the glow of the rising sun on the horizon, nice.:)

Yes it's a sweet little gouache! And AJ is right - it has the feel of early morning to it!

If you're up and about in the early hours, you may as well stay up to see the sunrise, and low lying mist hovering over the fields, there is nothing like it.

I've got a beautiful view of the sea from where I am as well for it

People holiday here and you see them just staring out towards it like a tv set

I seem to have spent alot of my time trying to get to sleep at night, and alot of time trying to stay awake during the day

Always been a night owl :pigeon:

Strictly personal opinion, that has to do with taste and aesthetics above all and the way I value a work of art:

    This one, in my opinion:

    - It does not show good technique.
    - It's amateurish at most.
    - the signature is not even mediocre

When looking at artwork, one thing that tells me a lot about the artist, is the signature. This one shows a failed attempt at "coming up with something unique" for lack of a better way to put it. It's aesthetically poor and even if the painting is to be considered passable, it ruins the little charm it may have. I would want to hide it if I was to ever display it.

As said, this is strictly personal. I have no idea who the artist is and what comercial value if any the painting may have.

I meant... The artist used just what he needed (e.g. brushwork, color) to perfectly capture the moment and nothing more. That takes artistic discipline.

Do you judge books by their covers, as your not really supposed to do that either :smug:

Only joking dude, I appreciate what your saying

I don't think it's fantastic either, but I do like it for a fiver :)
