Garbage picked this dude - I remember my Dad having one of these when I was a little kid. Works fantastic for hauling 40# duck feed bags. I just wish it had the cast iron wheels instead of the rubber ones - so more 50's I would guess. Made from iron castings and oak handles.

And my cactus collection is growing as all the pads that fall off I root:

And here's Mr Bun who screws with my dog all the time, the dog wasn't out so Mr Bun came out to eat some grass, he's a cutie!

    Is that Prickly pear?

And, if so, is it really edible?

BunBun is adorable....I have a family that lives under my deck.....wish they would only eat my grass and not flower blossoms!

Metal used appears to be largely stamped sheet steel, not castings.

    Hi,
Prickly Pear is wonderful for eating. I was surprised to find it in my grocery market last year.

You can eat it but the actual prickly pear "leaf" is not as good as the fruit; you can buy prickly pear fruit strips, they are amazing! :D

I had a large hand truck such as this, though it was cast metal with iron wheels. We had a small yard a the time and no idea if we were going to stay in that residence long, so I wired a large, rectangular planter to the hand truck and planted morning glories in it. It acted as its own trellis and I could move it around the yard for maintenance, esthetics, etc. Eventually sold it, plants and all...........

We have several growing at the shop I'm in.

I assume the outer "pricklies" are peeled leaving the flesh......to be eaten as a fruit?

You can eat them like a boiled egg. Slice in half and scoop the flesh.

    Hi Judy,
You eat the "fruit" NOT the leaves. It will grow a reddish color fruit.

    Hi,
Only ate the leaves once UNCOOKED. It was on a "Land on a deserted isle and eat or die" Old Naval survival training.

Where I am in New Hampshire, US, we have almost NO bunnies! Too many hawks & coyotes... (Note that "outdoor kitties" don't last long here, either!)

Interesting ideas for the prickly......I like the boiled egg style.

Since the supermarket has been mentioned, I shall look for them.....
