Well, I'm interested to know the opinion about the quality of his work))?

He died in 1951, was born around 1870.

Drawings were bought from the great-grandson of the artist))

If you're just interested in opinions I would say the perspective in the painting is off by a bit and there isn't a lot of detail; if this is a small drawing it's okay, if this is large I would assume that it's not his best work. :)

Well, I bought about 13 of his drawings. Everyone for 2-4 dollars.

Same for the first two; the last portrait is by far the best but still looks more like a hobbyist artist than a professional. You didn't do bad with $2-$4 especially if you like them. :)

As I understand, his work is something between a professional and an amateur))?

Well, here is some information. The artist's name is Dmitriy Suslov. Born in 1907, died 1964. Russian artist of very average level of skills. So, the portraits of 1900 are not his.
Now, about the drawing. It is a poor copy of the famous painting PRINCESS TARAKANOVA by K. Flavytsky. The history of this person is mysterious and tragic. She claimed to be an illegal daughter of the Russian Empress Yelizaveta and her secret husband Razumovsky. Thus, she claimed the right for the Russian throne. As she was the rival of the next Empress Catherine II and had support of some influential group of nobility, Catherine ordered to kidnap her and put her in jail. After years of tortures she died in jail.

And whose drawings are these then?
Maybe it's another Suslov? Not the one you found?
He was born in St. Petersburg.

Poor, poor girl. Alas, the fate of many who were seen as a threat to other royals.

As to the quality, I agree with the others. Still, for $2-4 you did well.

I find it to be morose, while oddly colorful at the same time.
If I hung it in the guest bedroom.....they wouldn't stay for long..! ;)

Looks like you have two different artists. Their style is different, as well as the skill level
