Found this little jewelry box for sale tonight. I love it but I don't really have a need for it, however I wanted to share anyway and maybe get some insight. The ad has describes it as silver with a velvet interior, although I'm not sure they mean actual velvet. Its 5 cm high (surely a typo?), width 8.5 cm, and 8 cm deep. The metal work looks beautiful but I feel like the interior isn't very well made. Are we looking at a cheap reproduction of an earlier style? But if its silver then it won't be cheap, unless its not silver at all. Or could it be an older box with a refurbished inside? Its tempting but I'm not quite sure exactly what I'm looking at..

Thank you! I'm trying to learn all I can. :D

It's not a cheap repro; it's a classic 1970s Taiwanese silverplated box. Maybe Japanese, but probably Taiwan given the time period. These were never real silver, or I've never seen one that was at least. They were made to resemble antiques but not fake anyone out. These days of course they're vintage in their own right.

Every mother across the planet got these in the 60s-70s for mothers day . I wouldnt pay more than a few bucks,as there are zillions.

Thanks for that info! Yes I always forget the 70s were 50 odd years ago. Its very pretty, and like I said before the metal work is stunning.

The seller wants 15 for it, but she's not local either so I think I'll pass. I don't need it and that 15 can go to something I might find at the car boot sale on the weekend.

Around here they land in the dollar bin. Maybe 3 in a thrift store.
