So pumpkin is old, paper insert a modern repro, or contemporary replacement? Any chance on the insert being an original?

Again everyone! Thanks all for the time and all the knowledge and effort! Really special.

Matt, see the post from Taupou above:)

not really that uncommon for them to have replacement inserts:)

For an item that’s 80 years old or so. I really have no clue how some of these paper inserts withstand the test of time.

I still have hope the insert is original. I hope. :)

Any reference cxgirl on the pictures your provided? Seems interesting that there is an actual market for these inserts.

    :)

they are done by someone in a Halloween group, here is another person that makes them

When you have a piece missing the insert, it is nice but it looks so much better with one inside:) For myself (and other collectors I know) it is acceptable/fine to have replacement inserts. The value won't be the same as having the original insert though, so when buying/selling you have to keep that in mind.
Are you interesting in collecting Halloween items? If you are, be careful, there are so many fakes out there it gets depressing at times

SO, I went to Noel Barrett's Antique Toys Auction Site at BidSquare, link will be below, and it should be ON the page where the Pumpkin cups/carriers are.....you have to scroll down a little to just below the VERY pricey Christmas decos....to the collections of pumpkin carriers.....hold the cursor over each collection (they're in small groupings) and the estimated value will show.....the auction was Dec, 2019, so you'd have to 'sign up' for results....link below:

This lot has the pumpkin I thought was most like yours. Sold for $1,098 when projected to reach $300 - 500. They may not all be of equal value. Suspect the devil got the big money.

Wow! Wanted to thank all of you for the wonderful turnout on discussion for this item!

So like Cxgirl said, facebook group was a big help. Mixed reviews on the paper insert. Some same original some say its a little newer than the pumpkin. Regardless its a nice piece. I couldnt be more confident with all the great feedback I received, and I thank each of you for that.
