My new purchase, I was surprised when I got this for a song on ebay the other day without much competition, it wasn't described well at all but still, I would have thought other bidders would have known what it was. Just for fun see if you can guess what it is, date and country of origin? BTW I paid £30 with postage....p.s sorry about the photos DSCF2358 (Medium).JPG DSCF2359 (Medium).JPG DSCF2360 (Medium).JPG

I know the answer but don't want to be the first to respond and spoil the fun for others.

It's only been viewed 4 times so that just shows I was lucky that it wasn't seen, please spill the beans if you knew without looking it up

I knew what it is for and the country it's from, couldn't remember the region and had to look that up.

Did you get the date? I don't know the region, I do know the country.

For it's age it's in very good condition, do you think £30 was a good deal?

I could only guess the date without having it in hand, circa 1900. I think you got it cheap.

A little out on the date but as you say you don't have it in hand 1780-1810

I know what it is. Be aware that modern ones made the rounds in the import stores a decade or so ago. Yours looks better than most of them I remember but can't tell from these pics if it is the real deal.

Looks like it holds bottles of some kind.

No idea, so I searched keywords and may have found it. (Is that cheating?)

My guess is a hat box, maybe military?

Some sort of strong box? Does it have a lock? I can't tell from the pics. I haven't a good guess as to country of origin. Have seen similar Swedish strong boxes, but they were oval in shape. At first thought Persian, but it isn't "busy"/ornate enough. I have seen similar shaped some time in my history, but for the life of me can't remember what or where from they were.

No this one is real but I did see a fake one while researching this purchase and thought to myself ahhh but it wasn't really convincing
