Featured Need information about this Coptic brass item

    IMG_1687.JPG IMG_1691.JPG IMG_1692.JPG IMG_1695.JPG IMG_1698.JPG Hi, I would like to know what this item was used for, the age, etc. I found it in a trunk with some old ethnic jewelry. It weighs approx. 700 grams. When I found it it was all black and I have to clean it several times to finally see the engravings, Thanks in advance.

    It looks Ethiopian to me as well. It looks like it could contain a book. Maybe a travel icon that serves as a carrier for holy scriptures?
    A very nice and interesting item.

    I agree, Coptic Ethiopian. It may have been designed to hold a painted wood icon, or perhaps a book, as @Any Jewelry suggests.
