1970 French Caned Hamper

    I am thinking this is a 1970 vintage waste basket or hamper. It has a bracket hole inside suggesting someone might have used it as a plant stand.

    I have. Magazines and newspapers. Probably 1990s rather than 70s.

    I wonder whether those holes in the bottom held a tall center handle. The smaller ones look like they had countersunk screws in them. Plus there's absolutely no evidence there was ever a plant inside.

    It may have been a magazine holder/lamp at one time. That's my guess at least.

    Magazines are a good possibility! It's carved wood with metal studs on the feet, so I'd be surprised if it was made in the 1990s. Was anything good made on the 1990s? ;)

    I see a 6" circular stain in the bottom. I don't know if it comes through in the photo. That got me thinking a palm or fern was in it.
