Hello again good people (metalheads perhaps? ) - I picked up this brass 3 dimenstional ashtray today - seems to have some legitimate patina on it. A demon figure (Hindu or Buddhist?) - there is a dragon? on each side of the bowl as well. There are remants of paper on the bottom of the bowl. Any ideas how old this guy is? I figure he probably is either from India, Thailand, or China. He's 7 1/2" top to bottom. 6" wide and about 2 1/2" high at the tip of his hat.

From Nepal, possibly Tibet, Buddhist. Not very old.
It is not a demon but a protector God. He looks a bit like Mahakala, but Mahakala has four arms. Was described in one of the listings as Bhairava, but Bhairava has six arms.
In Himalayan Vajrayana Buddhism are a lot of protector Gods, all scary looking.

This was definitely made as a tourist souvenir, late 20th/early 21st. C. It is safe to assume no Buddhist would want this thing.

    Absolutely.
Not as a votive object, but as an ashtray, you'd be surprised. We're talking Himalayan Vajrayana Buddhism, with a very strong Shamanic influence. A true Buddhist from another school wouldn't even think of making an ashtray like this.
