I've never seen anything like these before - antique death memorials. I imagine they would have cost a bit of money back in the day for these with the frame. The largest is 32" x 19".

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I have seen smaller cards printed like this. They were common. I haven't seen a larger format, framed like this. It seems to be a typical kind if design from that time period.

I found a small card with exquisite cut out art in my 2X great grandfather's bible, in memory of a young girl (13th year of her age when she died in the early 1870's) whose surname was the same as his but whom I have been totally unable to find in either English or American records (he was born in London and emigrated to New York City in 1842.) I was so hoping that finding some record of her would help me locate other members of his family.

I have other "memorial cards" but nothing even close to the size of these!

I seem to recall that certain churches and funeral homes once offered a choice of designs like these, which were then printed with the details of the specific deceased person.

They also offered similar for baptisms, weddings & probably other significant events. (I have a 25th wedding anniversary one for my great-great grandparents. It's large and framed in an oval gilt frame with a huge piece of convex glass - probably about 32" tall x 20" wide)

(And yes, just about impossible to ship! Heck, mine was just about impossible to MOVE!)

Maybe they liked the name:) Didn't George Foreman name his kids George?
Thanks SBSVC! That sounds like a nice piece you have:)
Yes, I should really think about shipping before I buy stuff, but I really like these so if they hang around that is fine.

I've found several occasions on which the reuse of a deceased child's name was the only way I could figure out when the first of the name passed on.

Thanks folks! I wish you were local too:) I was hoping to sell them locally but I don't think that will happen. Folks don't like them, think they are morbid. I will have to take them to auction next time I go to Vancouver.
I have them in our store, I think they are lovely too
