Nameplate on front - F A Whitney Carriage Co.
Steel frame, axles, wheels, rubber tires.
    Carriage - rattan (?) & a hardwood.
    Came with an attaching parasol.

I couldn't find it in the 1897 catalogue I found online but it has the 1896 patented quick release wheel mechanism described therein.
    (They work.)

The lack of wickerwork suggests to me a lower-end model. There seems to be plenty of wickerwork both before and after 1900 so it doesn't seem as helpful an indicator as I thought it might be.

    Is it properly called "stick and ball" ? 20170505_102544.jpg 20170505_102047.jpg 20170505_102206.jpg 20170505_101940.jpg

I'm just curious but . . . what is the interior length from back "ribs" (where the needlepoint is) to the front (curved "ribs")?

Yes, I saw that one. Mine has quite a different suspension & the handle attaches by rods to the carriage body rather than the suspension member. When I rescued it from a barn the upholstery was - well - hardly identifiable. Ugh. I was hoping I'd get lucky here and find a new direction to look if nothing else.
I thought the storage compartment underneath was interesting.
