I picked up this adorable little tea(?) set today and would love some input. Its unmarked, and the pot is 3 1/2 inches high,as is the creamer, and the cup and sugar bowl(?) are 2 . I walked by it 3 times,at 1st dismissing it as a doll set or the like, but then I looked at it again, and by the 3rd time I was intrigued. All thoughts welcomed.

Almost looks like a bad Chinese repro of Franciscan desert rose pattern. No markings, suspicious.

Reminds me of a take on Moss Rose. Agree that it's Asian though. Probably had made in Japan or made in China stickers. I think that bowl is an open sugar. It's pretty large in size for a children's set. I am surprised there aren't more cups and saucers. It's a cute set.

No other thoughts but that the detail and quality appears a bit better than the run of the mill children's stuff produced in the 1950-60s.

I inherited a collection of over 100 sets like this............took forever to get rid of the poorer quality stuff. I'll see if I can locate a photo..............

Thanks for the input everyone. I cant explain why I think so,but it just feels older than that.I am often wrong though! It was well used, there is wear on it.

I've been thinking about this set and wonder if it was a set for one.

The ladies I bought it from called it a "breakfast set" and said it had a fitted box that had fallen apart.

Cool! That explains the size and why there is only one cup. A lot of English china companies made these sets but I still think yours looks Japanese to me. The bodies on yours look thicker than I would expect English china to be. English companies would also have used a more realistic rose. It's a shame the box fell apart. I would guesstimate a 1940's -1950's time frame but could be just a little later.

Bit small for a breakfast set - two inch high cup?
