    That's really nice, when I first started learning about antiques I was told to look out for items that had barley-twists going in opposite directions, that being a sign of real quality, added with that nice bobbin turned legs, but what makes the chair is the restoration, often people say once restored a piece looses it's character, I don't agree, I have many items that I've restored and none were better before tjan after.

    I didn't know that about the Barley twist, Thats really good to know.

    I agree about restoration, I like to think that the pieces I restore will then last another hundred plus years.
    My chair had already been refurbished once way back in its early life so I think what I did improved it.

    I don't actually know how old it is other than its Victorian?
    The original Red silk that was underneath and the horse hair indicates to me that its pretty early.

    I wouldn't hazard a guess to it's age, clearly pre-1880 but chairs aren't my field, it seems to have a tall back, it isn't a spinning chair is it? BTW love the casters, maybe a close up on those might tell me more about it's age?
