Sterling Bracelet Signed EJ. Is this OPAL?

    Yes it is opal, and looks like it is a real one. Can't see if it is solid, is it open at the back, can you see the back of the stone?

    Looks like it is a triplet, three layers. A black base, then a slice of opal, and on top clear quartz to protect the opal slice. A triplet has a slightly domed top.
    A doublet is the same without the quartz layer, a flat top, but a clearer view of the opal.
    What you see at the back is the black base. Black enhances the colours of the opal, which is slightly translucent.
    With a solid opal the back would look like opal as well, or as natural potch, the stone the opal has formed on. Here is a photo of the back of an opal with white potch, you can still see the opal:
