Oh, that's lovely. 1930s. She's not conventionally beautiful but what an interesting, expressive face. Hope they were happy.

Oh, yes. A less posed, more natural expression.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Looks like I've never posted a wedding photo to this thread. I have a few, not too many. Here is one. The bride looks a little tired or bored, maybe after a long photo session?

Taken by the Wilke studio of Chicago, Illinois.

Interesting contrast between the groom's hairdo and the cockatoo's crest! :)

    Yes!
I just wish we knew the back story... it could be a photo prop bird or a beloved family member.

The "best bird" in the wedding, perhaps? :)

This is how brides used to dress in rural Srem.

I take it the coinage was a dowry, either to start the newlyweds off or an emergency fund. As to the bird guy, does anyone else think that's where Lyle Lovett got his haircut? (and I love her veil)

    Hi evelyb30,
Coin necklace was a must have, a part of the outfit. Dowry on the other hand, was optional and varied. Obviously, bride kept the coins, so it was something she brought into marriage and therefore a dowry.
