Very smelly netting head piece I think

Anybody know what this is ? The flowers are in between 2 pieces of netting. I wonder if it was for the head or what. Stinks so old smelling.

Depending on quality, it could be designed for a bride's headpiece or... more likely... to cover hair curlers.

I think this is a night cap, worn to keep the hair in place while sleeping.
Not to be confused with nightcap, to induce a pleasant sleep.
Perhaps the reason it's smelly is they wore a lot of heavy pomades back in the day and were not known for the daily shower and shampoo we take for granted.

 

To cover curlers while sleeping, exactly. Big round rollers. 1960s. Hygiene not a problem.

I had one of those and it was to hold the ugly, painful rollers on during the night so I'd look stunning the next day. These smooth rollers weren't so bad, but still not fun to sleep on.

 

And empty frozen orange juice cans.

We'd wear them to the afternoon football game so we'd look gorgeous for the parties in the evenings. Of course, we'd wear a scarf over them.

Bev, the last time I saw a lady with one of those things with the rollers on her head was last summer. I was waiting to get into an estate sale and she was there as well.
She was wearing a house dress, old school, and I swear, she looked just like the ladies in that scene from Goodfellas where the wives have a beauty parlour beauty night in someone's home with harsh makeup and haggard expressions.
