Chalkware fish and mermaids

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Jamie Sancineto, Apr 19, 2017.

  1. Hello! Looking for chalkware fish and/or mermaids for my collection
I know there are plenty on ebay, but they are charging an arm and a leg.

If you are looking for a loving home for your unwanted sea creatures, look no further!
    Thanks for your time

    Hi,
I knew I should have held on to them. I sold a lot of sets back in the 80s and 90s usually for 10 bucks a set.

  6. That's a steal! Yes, I have that mind set too sometimes, but then remember I might look like a hoarder, ha.

  9. Oh those are cool! What was the string used for? Were these in kitchens?

    Hi,
They were in the kitchen where they held the string to tie up packages which were covered with brown paper and then strung with string. They were also used to tie poultry legs together for cooking. The plain ones were for stores to tie up boxes and packages for customers. Bakeries always had red and white twisted string to close boxes.

And there is still one in NYC (Little Italy) that ties the boxes, but for the life of me I can not remember the name of the place............:(

I have that pink fish set with two bubbles. But it's on my bathroom wall and it's not going anywhere - sorry.

OMG - I just asked DH to go and check how many bubbles there actually were, and he honestly didn't know what I was talking about. They've been there for 25 years!!

    I love chalkware!

  14. I completely understand! They are just as good-looking as Carey Grant!
I wouldn't get rid of my fish either.
