Age of original diamond earring made into ring?

This gold ring was mounted in the 20th century with what was once (part of?) an antique silver and diamond earring. I am wondering about the age of the original earring.
It is a silver flower shape with a rose-cut diamond in the heart and diamond chips in the larger petals. It has had a bit of a life. The mount of the central diamond is enclosed and raised, like renaissance point-cut diamonds, but is likely to be more recent, since the rose-cut was introduced in the 16th century.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for looking.

I was thinking the style, technique, etc. I am lost when it comes to the period between 1600 and 1800, and I suspect this could be in that lost part. It looks a bit too 'rough' for 1800 onwards.
I've been looking at the tiny diamonds, they could be uncut diamonds rather than chips.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Too bad we can't see what the original earring looked like. That would help...

It would. I think we often wish we had time machines. For the good times, that is.
