Don't know if it made it past the 60s. I had been in there many times.

    It isn't. :)
    Look them up.
I'd be shocked to find that's not their older logo.
    Defunct in '87 and sold.

Ohrbachs's expanded from NYC to California, too.

I remember that many a TV show in the 1960's had "....fashions by Ohrbach's...." in the credits at the end of the show.

Here's an Ohrbach's signature logo that looks somewhat similar to the one Billy has shown:

Ohrbach's! Discovered that store when I first moved to Manhattan, and I loved to buy there.

One shopped elsewhere, and then went to Ohrbach's to buy the desired item at anywhere from 40 to 70% less. And, yes, it was the same thing -- label and all. One went into the entrance on 35th Street, rather than the one on 34th, because that's where the smallish room was where they stashed the specially discounted stuff. One Saturday it would be boots, the next, Olga lingerie, and next, winter coats. One never knew what prize would be waiting.

And up a couple of floors, there was a center section where one could buy designer outfits starting at $7.00. Really! The labels were often cut out, but if one had gone to Saks, or Lord & Taylor, or B. Altman's, first, one recognized some of them.

Gee... Shopping is not nearly as much fun anymore!

I used to do that with my late Grandma. I was little...well...up to 11...when she suddenly passed at only 56. :(
We used to go to there as well Macy's and Gimbels and all such places all the time. 2-3 times a week when school was out on the bus from Jersey City.
Shopping doesn't bother me one bit and I'm a good helper at it due to her.

Most fun for me was the bus station turntable in the basement of the Hotel Dixie where the bus went down and then was spun to go back up! YAY! ;)

Awesome, I could only imagine the fun shopping experience back then. I can only remember the 70's when my Mom took me to Sears to buy Levis and somewhere else to buy Vans, the good ole days are gone.

    Hi,
Does anyone remember Jerry Ohrbach? He was the grandson of the owners of Ohrbachs. He was a "star" back in the 70s.

Didn't he have a leading role on one of those "cop shows?"

He did - but he was best known (in CIVILIZED circles - ie New York), as a song and dance man on Broadway - at one time he held a record for winning the Tony award....

LAW AND ORDER, you ninnies! He is well-known to the younger generation as "Lennie." To say nothing of the fact that he was Baby's doctor Daddy!
