I also didn't see it when I bought it! It was displayed upside down hanging on a wall!! Even the cord to hang it up was on the wrong side. I almost used it as a backing for a other painting! :)

Even without noticing the face, it is beautiful.

Now comes the big question. Is the artist John Chippendale known? Can't find any records of this artist.

Found another reference to John Chippendale and a record sleeve design in this interview:
"John Paul Coffin: The artwork is by John Michael Chippendale, a great London artist, and our friend Alan Calan got us hooked up with that.
Hal Pierce: It was by an artist named john chippendale (since deceased)... we all like his art... there were several to choose from. we contacted his estate in england about using his artwork for the reunion album but were not able to get it worked out."

Thx any jewelry. Interesting find. Now we have name his full name and it seems that he made more than only one cover art.

Still impressed by this forum and the knowledge people her have. Was always waisting my time on other forums. I have removed these forums from my bookmarks few days ago.. listed this topic yesterday with a mindset that it would not be resolved and today I already have so much info!

Pleasure, of course. all_fakes did the groundwork, I just followed up on it.
I like this forum as well, everyone loves gathering knowledge and sharing it. It leads to a wonderful cooperation, which is the best way to get anywhere. And there is a lot of fun too, which refreshes those searching brainwaves.

Just wanted to second your accolades for for the "crowd"...............one of the best decisions I ever made in my (mostly misspent) life was to read the Antiques Board on the place who's name is never spoken..................ain't these tenacious, inquiring, knowledgeable peeps the BEST???

OK - NO off topic, just a bump to the top!!!!!

The connection to the other album makes me believe this work could be categorised as psychedelic art, is that correct? The connection to the other album which any-jewellery found is psychedelic-rock with a similar style cover. Think the artist is or was specialised in this style when he made this work.

No wonder cxgirl and me couldn't spot it in the beginning :)

Back of Album cover is (I THINK) just clear enough to read the artist!!

My methodology: I copied the original photo from post 1, and then did an image search via google. This came up with the record album. I did a bunch more searching using the name of the band and the album, which revealed lots of interesting information that was not relevant, such as the names of the group's drummer and keyboardist and what else they were better-known for. And one of the album photos I found on discogs was clear enough to show the name of the artist who did the cover art, Tony Wright. Searched out and found his website.
Then I did an ebay search for the record album, and in one of the listings the back of the album was pictured clearly enough to make out the name of the "cameo" artist, John Chippendale.

This was the artwork for an album that I made in the early 70's (Cameo Roles by Rinky Dink and the Crystal Set) The album was made for Chrysalis Records but after a BIG falling out EMI Harvest took up the contract and released it. Unfortunately Chrysalis wouldn't let us have the artwork so a print was scanned and set into a cameo ring for the cover. Is amazing seeing it after all these years! Don't suppose you want to sell it? I have a sentimental attachment. Allan Black
