I received these pins from a seller in South Africa. A few of the pins that I have been able to identify have been from Africa or represent something about Africa, one of which is a pin for M.O.T.H. though, of course, they're not necessarily all from there.

Posting this here rather than jewelry as it's more about the symbols than the jewelry itself.

Try as I might, I haven't found anything out about most of these so I'm hoping that someone will recognize something about them.

I'll put a couple in each post (pics to follow in a second).

The pin on the right says S.V.D.B., and on the back, it says "P. Schmidt" & "Berlin 36".

It must have to do with the Olympics of '36 in Berlin, and though the flag looks familiar to me, I can't quite place it.

If someone just knows what the flag is or what SVDB stands for, that would be a big help.

The flag on the right says KP HG with something in between (a house, a building?). I can't find anything on either of these.

The pin on the left, I'm assuming it has something to do with the Cape Colony being annexed by the British in 1815, but if anyone has any idea what the symbology is on this, it would help. Looks like an "8" at the very top, followed by a cross, the deer skull and then "1815" towards the bottom.

The deer has an 800 on the back, so I'd guess it's gold wash over 800 silver.

The bird on the right, I don't have a clue what he is, other than a pretty bird. No other markings on him. DSCF9655.JPG DSCF9662.JPG

Last one. No marks on the back of this one.

I see a crown at the top and a cross in the middle. Possibly the initials "E" and "H", but who knows as this one is so visually complex.

The only SVDB I know of is a Dutch amateur football (soccer) team,
Schmidt could have been the maker.

The symbol between the KP and HG might be a crown? ... or maybe not.

Thanks Davey. I'm pretty sure you're right about Schmidt being the maker, though I haven't been able to find other pins with that name.

LOL, the only SVDB I could find was Sacramento Valley Detecting Buffs and the Saint Vitus Dance Band.

I thought these would be so easy to research given the fact some of them have acronyms on them, but I must not be looking in the right places.

    A crown is a good suggestion. :)

Maybe I'm assuming too much on the first set of pins. Since the one says "36 Berlin", I just assumed it had to do with the Olympics, but maybe I was reaching that direction too quickly (and certainly without foundation as more than the olympics occurred in Berlin in 1936, I'm sure).

    Ugh.

The nearest to the wavy lines of the KPHG flag I can get is the Province of Zeeland in the Netherlands and it has a crown on it.
Bearing in mind you got these from South Africa, the Dutch Afrikaans have a big influence in there.

The bird and the initials are simply stickpins and nothing more.

The DB one reminds me of a German flag of some kind, could DB be Deutsche Bahn (German Railways)

I think the three crowns with the red stripes are just that - three crowns and red stripes. It looks like the fake heraldic stuff that was popular for a while. I'm not sure of the rest, but check that bird for gold.

I haven't had any luck on IDing any of these stick pins. I thought I could easily ID the green flag pins with the black Balkan-type cross, more accurately a beam cross or Nordic cross, with white flimbriation (white strips) - no such luck. No doubt it is German related. The old German War Ensigns had a red or white background with this same black & white cross.

I thought possibly a previous German colony in Africa that may have participated in the '36 Olympics - again no luck.

The only green flag with a black cross similar to this one was one called a Vinnland flag. This isn't it.

Thank you so much for spending that time looking Susan! It is very much appreciated.

I really thought these would be quite easy to track down, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I was looking at images until my eyes were bloodshot, and I couldn't make headway on almost any of them.

Good, I learned a new word today. And I have no idea how to get rid of these italics.

Highlight your text then click the I for Italics, which is between the B for Bold and U for Underlined
