This kettle caught my eye yesterday and I had to have it. I'm wondering if its a replica of an older style or if it is an original. Its copper and brass, possibly with an either pewter or tin interior. I don't know if it is usable. The spout looks like those from the early 20th century, but I'm not sure if its an antique as it looks like a modern finish. Unmarked, approximately 8" tall, 6" from handle to spout, 5" wide at the base. All in all its a lovely thing whatever the age and very happy I picked it up for 5 euros. Thank you for your input! I'm loving learning about my finds.

Think it is older but not antique. No reason to reproduce something like this. Functional form made forever. Tin lining shows it was meant for use.

It is a pleasing shape, and was probably made in India.

Interesting! Thanks for the info. How would you go about dating this? I looked at a few kettles and honestly they looked the same to me for the most part. :p

India? That was the last place on my mind lol. What suggests India about it? I'm curious.

I have a creamer and sugar dish made in Portugal along the same design made of copper and brass. We got it in the 1980s and it wasn't antique.

Bottom doesn't look like it was ever used.

That is true. I was under the impression that it may be a replica for decorative purposes? Also someone told me it was a zinc interior, any thoughts on that?

Doubt it was zinc, more likely tin.

Oh wow that's incredibly similar! I've not found one that looks like mine like that. It does have that same hammered look. No marks though. :(

Yours is decorative, not very old, and I agree with 2many, most likely made in India.
We used to get a lot of Greek and Turkish copper items here in Europe in the 1970s and 80s, I suspect these Indian items came later.

Thank you for that info. Would it be decorative even with the tin or was that used to make it look more authentic?

It would, they are simply used to lining copper with tin. Indian craftspeople have no idea what we get up to with their crafts, they just make what they make. And if someone from Europe orders 100 of these, 100 it is.;)

Now I'm wondering if the sugar & creamer we bought in Portugal was from India originally.
