Ah, yes. The weird thing is, I read that for the first time just a few years ago because it's such a classic & I felt I should know it. Then had an eerie deja lu experience early on when the 2 boys start talking about being sports. I remembered that from sometime in my deep past, grade school I think, without a single shred of memory of any of the rest.

I've come to know some about micro mosaics and own some myself. The discussion has been correct, this isn't the true micro mosaic size tesserae. But it is still referred to as micro mosaic. I tend to call the tinier size macro micromosaic. And I also agree that this pin is not from the 1920s but more likely 1930s-1950s. One good thing you have going is it is stamped Italy. This did not happen with every piece of mosaic jewelry. So that's a plus! It's more of a common type of micro mosaic jewelry piece though. It is the tinier macro micromosaic pieces that are harder to find and much more expensive. The price on the listing you showed is about right but it could even be less at around $20. Many people like to jack the price up and hope someone will pay it.

    Hope this helps.

it would be interesting if we had someone around that really knows the history of "Made in Italy". it's the same problem IMO as with "Made in Germany".
the fascists gave nothing about international rules, as the other ones didn't after 1933.
so shtroonzes of America show up and help.

It looks like a better quality one than I bought in '68. The backs of those had a scrolly, pierced metal cover. Base metal, don't think they said Italy on them anywhere.

So if I list it with a $30 bin. I might make something.

I have some with Italy, and some sans, which have lesser backs. I can remember buying some off stalls in markets. ;)

with the "Made in" I'd rather guess narrow to the foreign rules, so eventually before 1922.

Since it's only tourists who buy these, marking it so boldly as Made in Italy could just have been part of making a good souvenir.

Note my pic is a tiny micromosaic putto pendant. I was very fortunate to get to own this piece because since I purchased it the work of this artist (unknown) has skyrocketed in value. I also have a stud button of a putto by the same person. I'm very, very particular about the color and the design and I'm artistic as well. I've been able to ascertain that the last piece to be placed is the chin piece. And it's the same with every piece I see by this person. I believe it's from the 1800s. I'll upload a better pic and one of the stud button for your enjoyment. I like to wear the pendant on a velvet dark mauve cord. 2015.07.11 Micromosaic Putto Brooch.jpg IMAG0098_1_1.jpg
