Picked these up yesterday at the local flea-market. My first ever pair of sterling silver cufflinks. Marked "STG" for STERLING, on the backs.

How old would something like this be? I know chain-links with the barbell ends date back around the late-ish Victorian era, but when did these stop becoming a thing?

    From the style I would guess, 1890s - 19teens.
    Wait for others.

I'd have guessed on the older end of that - late 1880s to 1890s somewhere. Aesthetic Period design. Someone would cheerfully wear those even now, especially a woman.

I though for a female the minute I saw them - then remembered some of the ones I inherited and changed my mind.....................

    I agree, typically Aesthetic Period.

Surely this is a sign of the End of Days!

    Hi AF,
I have my great grandmothers cuff links from the 1870s. They are really fancy I guess they went well with the white blouse and long black skirts.

I've been wearing them for years; the world hasn't ended yet. As a woman who can wear a 34 sleeve, I've been known to snag menswear french cuff shirts. Since I'm stuck wearing a man's shirts I'm darned well wearing his bling too. (LOL) Women used to wear them, or technically cuff buttons. Their shirtwaists wouldn't have buttons attached, just buttonholes on both sides. A real lady would attach her cuff buttons and use them for added decoration.
