http://www.ebay.com/itm/Morrison-Ke...365896?hash=item51f5edfdc8:g:rJwAAOSwhQhY2UX1 Well looks pretty typical, huh? I was in this mans shop a week ago and asked the price on this, which was once quoted to me as $1k, later 2k, and this third visit was told "I put it on Ebay." I couldn't find it there and asked him about it, a day later got a reply that it was now on Ebay. I found it and bid. I also sent him a text "please don't take it down early as I often put my full bid in late (yeah I snipe!) Then he texts me "I sold it here today, will take it off Ebay tomorrow." Well if he does take it down while my 99 cent high bid is the only one, I guess I own it, technically, for 99 cents! He's been around a while so I expect him to wiggle out of it somehow, but don't know. Strange situation anyway!
He can cancel your bid and take it down - and the only "penalty" he will have to pay is the final value fee on your 99 cent bid, IF he has already used his "one free cancel" for the year.
I think he's a little paranoid. Does he really know what he has? He knows you are interested and he thinks you might take advantage. Which personally I doubt you would. But he's afraid of being had. Do you really want it? I'd walk away.
Thanks, yes he knows what he has and has had it in his shop visited by at least hundreds of folks a month. He's had this for at least a year. He's been selling used machine tools for 30 years and this is the end of his liquidation sale. Yes I do want it and the Eboo 'puter proxy bid system has a lower level of want and my sniper program has a higher level, the way I usually set it up. Will I be upset if I don't win? Heck no, this machine cuts a neat "keyway" in a gear or Pully of width and depth you want IF you have a Morrison broach of correct size (I have none and there are $$$.). I don't have to cut keyways often so I'm only interested in it up to a few $hundred.
I looked at the other items he has listed http://www.ebay.com/sch/dempseyandc...%3D1194265333364&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 But he only has the one keyseater.
I got en Eboo email that my bid was cancelled so he did cancel all bids. Yes that's same guy I've bought tons of stuff from during his prolonged liquidation. I don't care about the keyseater, had no tooling with it and that stuff would cost thousands even second hand to gather enough to be able to cut just a few common-size keyways.
A seller does that sometimes if he figures the item isn't going to sell for what he wants, especially if it was started too low. It's one of the few times I'd recommend a reserve, and disclosing it in the auction; that way no one wastes their time bidding if they don't want to go high enough.
