Found vaseline glass this today and I guess I'm just curious what the circular pedestal like thing is on the bottom when it doesn't even touch the ground? Also any idea on the maker?

Technically this would be referred to as uranium green. Vaseline glass is yellow in coloring.

Sorry I can't help you other than that piece of information.

Thanks bercrystal, vaseline glass has uranium in it, and they both glow green under UV light correct? Difference being their color under normal light?

Several makers have rings on the bottom of footed pieces.

As far as maker, I don't know who did it.

Interesting ... do you know the purpose of the ring? Just decorative?

I have a feeling it has to do with handling the glass as it comes from the mold, but that's just a guess.

    Hi,
That base is called a marie, do not know where the name came from.

The ring on the base is for attachment of a 'snap', a mechanical hand to hold the glass while the top is being, in this case, ruffled. I could be called a snap ring. It takes the place of the older punty rod.

    Hi Tom,
Do you know where the term marie came from? I always wondered.

The bottom piece is more likely called a Collar.
