FullSizeRender-3.jpg Hello all! We found this trunk and trying to figure out exactly what it is, and approximate value (we are planning on sprucing it up, cleaning a bit). In the stack of trunks, it is the one in the center. There is a name, Nathan Stark, that was written on the inside under the lining. Thank you for taking a peek!

Haven't seen one of those in decades. My Gram and my mother had one very similar - used to transport the silver from the city to the country and back again every summer.

Sorry I can't be of any other assistance.....................

Well, the Wilson Silver co. started out as the Robert Wilson silver co. in 1803 in NYC. It eventually ended up in Philly around 1812 and around 1825 his brother William joined him with the company name changed to R. & W. Wilson. The company was located at the SW corner of 5th and Cherry. Later in 1877 the company "disbanded." Soon after William & his son formed a new Wilson company called Wm. Wilson & Son. This may have been one of their salesmen's sample cases??? Not sure how thus info can help in dating this case other than later then 1812 and earlier then 1909 because the name Wilson was generic for all the different company names.

On the following thread scroll down a little and read the 4th message posted by "ellerbee" for a lttle more info on Wilson's history.

Nathan Stark might have been the sakesman?

Using Masons' idea of transporting silver, I came upon this Pinterest page. Most of these seem to be for picnicking.
I find it interesting that they wrote water pot. Are the other rounds also marked? If so, you may find tea pot, coffee pot, sugar, creamer. Which would confirm Mansons' idea.

Anyone else noticed that Pinterest has not been making it difficult to view pages lately?

I try not to visit Pinterest just because of the reason you mention.... difficulty.

If they ask for your PW, then they know you already are a member.

It's not a paid membership like Worth....so why the need?

I can't remember my PW, and so I always just click out out the page, and avoid any others.

Perhaps they are getting the hint from many who do the same.

Probably originally intended for use in conjunction with a "picnic".........but that was the very, very, VERY last thing my Gram would have used it for...........Her idea of a picnic involved The Palm Court or Peacock Alley - and that could be considered roughing it depending on which/what nouveau "trash" was around

But I distinctly remember her using it during the "summer migration", because I remember when she could no longer send it by express company (along with a gazillion trunks and crates) and had to arrange for a private trucker each spring. Oh, the horrors, trepidations, and taxing event of having her "companion" make a damned phone call................by the way - the Town House (Winter) and the Home Farm (Summer) were 40 miles apart...............

And I know Ma used one in the winter to go south until the airlines wouldn't let her board it as luggage any longer. She shipped a "permanent" silver service to the house in Florida, but THAT created its own set of problems...................

Definitely a peek into a mostly lost lifestyle. Would not be surprised if the silver this was fitted for was long ago sent for scrap.

Thank you all! Yes, there are words written in the other "holders", so I'm guessing for transporting important silver pieces. I cannot find any value on this...anyone want to wager a guess? I look at Ebay and Etsy primarily...nothing on either of those as of yesterday. approximate age??

Oh, yes. We are going to take side by side baths in the warehouse. Think customers will mind? Maybe we can rent them out as props :D

Not an idea to be sneered at...........I do it on a regular basis. Look in the Wanted section of Craigslist when you are up and running. I made contact with a woman who is the prop master for a slew of local theatre companies here in Chicago and I am on her Go To list, both buying and renting.

Thank you, that was quite informative and a new forum for me to explore. I love silver and silver-plate pieces!

Agreed! We will be within driving distance of Atlanta, and plan on getting hooked into the movie industry in this area. We also have a few coffins...it's gonna be a great Halloween.

Now THERE is a side-by-side photo-op that may disturb a few customers.................but you can bet a shinplaster that I would do it..............

At first we were like...."we have a coffin." Then we were like...."WE HAVE A COFFIN!" We are actually hoping to use it for seasonal decor or rent as props...it is rather...odd...to be digging through this warehouse (and you guys are seeing the "after" photos. My husband is really organizing and cleaning!)...and find just random things. So, we are going to sell what we can, and be creative with the rest.

My Mom buried one of her beloved Dachshunds in a child sized coffin that she got out of an old house, and gave him a headstone......you wouldn't BELIEVE the traffic his little stonewalled cemetery drew!!!!!

    Hi,
Aquitaine's comment made me laugh. When I went to Vermont the first time. There is a private road coming down the mountain where people usually lose their brakes.
At the top there is a sign saying this way to Barlow's grave. I took the walk about a half mile to a large grave stone of Barlow. It seems he was an old German Shepard that died in the 1940s. It became a joke to my friends.

I found only one. However, it is complete with utensils. There are 57 people watching this.

I would think if you were to advertise this in the antique automotive section of your local Craigslist, that you might do well. There are a lot of people with antique cars who might find this to be a good accessory.

I would clean it up a little, you will get a higher price. Not sure what to wipe it down with. Mineral Oil? Wipe off excess. Wait for others to suggest how to clean.
