Today I was in a thrift store looking at the jewelry.
There was this glued together mess of a pin. I hate that people rip apart vintage jewelry and make something ugly!
Anyway, this one caught my eye because it had some nice pearls on it. For $1.00, I took a chance.
Lo and behold, I discovered a 14k Mikimoto earring! Unfortunately, the clip part has been removed. The hot glue was really hard to remove!
I took the photos after I started pulling it apart. It has the Mikimoto mark, an "M" in an oyster shell.
    Yay!

Yes! Vermeer must have gotten his hands on La Peregrina before Liz did!

Well, it is La Peregrina. I saw it when it was part of a special exhibition on pearls.

You could easily put a jump ring on each side, with a fine chain passing through another jump ring. It could then hang from a necklace.
It would hang the opposite way than worn as an earring.

I've remade single screwbacks before, but not that way. Cheap costume that was only a single yes, 14k no.

You have never gotten a Mikimoto pearl in a canned oyster?

Are you sure Mikimoto sold their pearls in canned oysters?

Because so much people mistake fine jewelry with costume... And vice versa!

Because people don't understand how to look for marks on jewelry.
Unlike myself, who scrutinizes every scrap of bling that passes under my nose!

That gold pendant with the star in the center, is that gold, maybe 10K?

So was all that stuff glued onto a piece of cardboard? Looks like it might have been a heart. The original piece is awful, must have been a "thing" that I missed. I hope you're able to get the pearls fixed, they are gorgeous. (I'm a pearl lover, but only white ones.)

Oh! Looking more closely, that heart looks like plaster of paris! That just had to be a hobbyist thing back in somebody's day.
