Featured Lidded Jar, What did I buy this time?

I just succumbed to the offer of a few bucks off & bought this porcelain lidded jar for which I have absolutely no need. It came to my attention because seller used the word 'cameo' in the description.

With the veil, closed eyes, poppy flowers on a field of stars, she would be Night, in an art nouveau interpretation.

Lots of marks, anyone know them? Sort of a sunflower with a name (_USTO? _USIO?) at the center, both in the glaze (what is the correct term?) & as a little inset plaque in the center of the bottom.

Just spent some time looking for more info, but nothing like a company history is coming up [as I type, SIS came in with the entry from Kovel's - thank you too!] just a few other pieces. (The vase with the woman chained to a rock at the seaside is surely Andromeda.) Looks like larger pieces fetch decent prices. Seems routine for sellers to describe everything as 'rare', but 'antique' is definitely accurate. Nice to know it is not some kind of repro. Wonder if that little plaque on the bottom indicates a piece from earlier in their history? Seems like the sort of thing you do when you start out determined to produce high quality & eliminate when you find you need to cut costs.

So, for < $30, did I do OK? I find her hypnotic, as she is meant to be.

 

Also wondering if 'Plastographic' is a clue to the technique, some innovation on pate sur pate?

I've been googling and, wow, the Plasto pieces I'm seeing really are gorgeous!

Here is a lovely Plasto vase which even includes typical cameo coloring. Auction estimate $700-$900 with an opening bid price of $500. The California auction house is calling it pate-sur-pate.

 

I really had a devil on one shoulder saying Buy that now! & an angel on the other saying You don't need one more thing! The moment I got an automated offer from the seller, the devil started smirking. So glad to have my perception that it is a good quality piece validated. Seller represented as 'vintage', so had no expectation of antique. Thought it could be French. Was pleased to be introduced to this maker.

 

Really stunning. Great buy. Sometimes you should just go with the Devil.

 

On cameos she is conventionally shown wreathed with poppy pods. The extravagant blooms on the jar are the major art nouveau touch.

 

Not sure it’s true pate sur pate — there were other techniques such as Limoges enamelling (I think that was what it was called) — I think this is tryin to emulate pate sur pate and it is very nice. Had not heard of Plasto before.

 

I'd have called it pate sur pate.

 

It's a lovely piece, +perfect to hold your favorite cameo jewelry!

Agree, beautiful. That's plenty of justification especially at that price (speaking as someone who just bought something for the same reason).

It's a good 5 inches in diameter, so could hold a few if appropriately protected from one another.

I know when it arrives I'm going to be highly tempted to keep it on the desk where I can look at it all the time. The desk is also where at least one cat is nearly all the time, so probably not a good idea.
