Hi there! does anybody have any idea what this object might be? It was found in the woods, no residential area, I mean deep in the woods. Some trees were cut nearby.
Hi. Thanks a lot! I Think you are right. Forgot to mention size: 3.25in/8.25cm. It weighs about 3.52oz/100g. Thanks again!
Is that kind of small for stove lids???? My other thought was also a hoof pick for cleaning horses hooves......which could make sense deep in the woods.....
@Bev aka thelmasstuff, what size is yours??? @SBSVC, any thoughts?? Or @KSW?? (If I have the right horse person??)
That was off the internet. I have one that was my mother's back in the day when we used a wood stove. I know it's here, but not WHERE in the massive amounts of "stuff" I have. All the images of horse hoof picks I saw literally had a pick at the end.
Hmmm....Now I'm a bit confused...You might be right as well. It did cross my mind, actually, that the size is kind of small for a stove lid lifter.
But when I look on other ancient hoof picks images, the hook's angle is more straight, more abrupt, so to speak...
I agree that a hoof pick has a sharper angle. The end of the pick is at least 90 degrees from the handle. A quick images.google.com search for vintage hoof pick will illustrate. Modern hoof picks aren't much different. I lived in a cabin for several years with a wood cook stove. It looks like a lid lifter to me too. The one for our stove was similar in shape and angle to the one in this thread, but rather than a solid handle it had a steel coil to protect your hand better from heat that transfers to the tool.
Bev, you're absolutely right, and the angle of the rusty one of the OP's I thought kind of looked like it had a pick at the end, but I don't mind being totally wrong either.....I thought the size was more in line with the hoof pick.....that's all!! EDIT: So after a pretty good search....y'all are ON it and I'm NOT!!!! Good call everyone ELSE (but me!!)!!
