I picked this up 2 days ago, been trying to figure out what it is. Feels like wool and or mohair, no labels anywhere.

    Thanks

Novice opinion? 1990s lady's jacket with shawl collar, Slash/patch pockets and what appear to be shoulder pads.........................

Dating depends on size/construction of shoulder pads. If large and well padded, I would think 1980s retro. If less exaggerated, 1950s. (I would lean to 1980s.)

Thanks Deborah and Komokwa. There are small thin shoulder pads inside the coat, I mean in between the 2 materials. Camelhair would be cool.

The way the sleeve is cut, sort of billowing at the elbow, a tiny bit short, almost 3/4rds, with that decorative seam 8 inches above the cuff, this really reminds me of 1950's. But could be an newer coat with a nod to the older style.

What would also help would be to see the inside of the coat, construction of the lining and shoulder pads.

The lady was crafty, she had lots of yarn and material, some simple clothes she made I was told by her caretaker who ran the estate sale. Here are some pics I just took. 031.JPG 035.JPG 038.JPG

The use of pinking shears to trim the hemline , ..... it may well indeed be her own work.

Similar to this but still think retro. (With a bit of internet digging you may be able to identify pattern as homemade.)

    Good points, all.

An after thought, technically this isn't a cape. (A cape is sleeveless).

If the former owner made it herself, looks like she did a nice job.
