Yes, one I was considering buying but finally decided against.

Another reason to doubt that the sculpture was intended for a monument. She has some resemblance to conventional depictions of Sappho, although I can't connect the ivy to the poetess, while I can associate it with Ariadne.

Here are a few of my sentimental Victorian hair pocket watch chains and one gold locket bracelet dated from the 1850's:

When I thought I would comment that I noticed the doll is wearing a watch fob passing for a pendant, I did not expect you to blow us away with all these other examples. The MOP one looks closer to Georgian than Victorian.

I started collecting these old pocket watch chains as jewelry for my antique dolls to wear, lol. I have over 100 antique German and French dolls in my collection. I buy most of them antique jewelry to wear and little Victorian coin purses for them to hold, lol. They are like real pampered children. I had no idea that the MOP one could be Georgian. That makes me even happier! Thanks for letting me know.

Sappho was also rejected by a lover & ended up throwing herself into the sea. She probably held her head for a bit too.

Wow. I had to look those rocks up. 29 pounds is an astonishing size for a specimen piece. I can see how you waited eagerly for it. I never get something that good for such a low price. That is a fabulous story too.

Thanks! I was extremely lucky that day I won it. Astro Gallery started that auction off at .99 cents with no reserve. I could not fathom why barely anybody else bid on it. Lady luck was on my side that day. I watched it for one week and figured it was going to sell for at the least $600 and at the most $3,000. I placed a 3 second snipe at the end of the auction thinking I was definitely not going to win it.

When I won it, I immediately figured I was not going to get it. I prophesied my own doom and not long after, FedEx really screwed up, lol. There was no way I was going to let FedEx get away with this one! I was told at first I was a liar and that I received it. Then the rep said, "oh, it's lost we will just pay the insurance claim". I was like oh, hell no! I want my rock, lol.

When I walked into the FedEx hub I was fuming mad. The people there went on a wild goose chase to find out what happened. Apparently they claimed the labels fell off of the boxes and got switched and that is how they were all misdelivered. I don't believe that story. The bridal shop never got their dresses and FedEx had to pay $15,000 in insurance claims. I found out because I made friends with one of the workers there and they texted me all of the juicy details. The Bridal Shop owner was going to take them to court.

Well that was a sensational piece of luck to snatch up that beauty. It has so many interesting facets to look at. I can see though why you have this one so prominently displayed. This story gets better and better.

Thanks. If you like rocks and crystals you would be in heaven if you came to my house. My husband said I am turning my house into a cave. I have hundreds of crystals and rocks. I like sparkly things, lol.

My house if full of rocks too. Actually, I recently purchased two Globe Wernicke lawyers bookcases to display some of them. I try to bring back rocks from every place I visit - if I can find a rock shop or a roadside vendor. Here are two of my favorites - Tanzanite from Tanzania and Ruby and Emerald in matrix from Nepal. They are small.

Your fossil is a gorgeous specimen! I have 4 similar to yours in my collection. Did your's come from Rucks Pit in Florida by any chance? Rucks Pit is a well known location for those calcite clam shell fossils.
