Boston Rocker? and stabilizing without gluing?

Hi all! I dug back and found Ladybranch's link on her Rocker, to see if there was any mention (since I didn't remember...) https://www.antiquers.com/threads/boston-rocker-age-and-if-worth-repairing.14477/ of stabilizing the loose spindles.....there wasn't. So, do any of you use the old 'adhesive' that swells the wood but doesn't glue it- "Chair-Loc"?? I'd be interested in any opinions if you do, and if not, what you would use!! The arms in particular are getting pretty loose again......my ancient bottle of Chair-Loc I'm not sure is still any good!!!! Thanks in advance for any and ALL help!!!! Maybe I should check out a woodworkers shop????

 

Maybe Gorilla Glue.
It expands so you have to keep at it as it does and it takes a while.

Thanks King and TallCakes!!!! Somewhere I remember reading something against gluing as it may put undue stresses on old furniture, but the adhesives that swell, as TallCakes mentioned, might not be as stressful and succeed in tightening up the loose parts!! Thank you both again!!!!

 

If you use anything that expands I would wrap the area tightly but don't get that into the glue.
I would leave it for some days too.
If you have any old chair parts you can test these glues and adhesives.

You could buy something at the thrift with lots of leg parts spindles and abuse then fix it.

Just a wee update!!!! THAT ANCIENT "Chair-Loc" that's been sitting around for decades....??? WELL, it worked like a CHARM!!!!! Didn't need to buy ANYTHING..... YET!!! IF it holds up!!!! YAAAAAAAY!!!!

 

Good to know. I have a couple of antique chairs with loose bits and I haven't been sure what to use.
