Gold necklace marked 835? What type of link?

Stumped on this. I have googled the meaning of 835, but the results are all over the place. I thought maybe this necklace was silver with a gold overlay, so I polished it because it has some darkening in areas, but after polishing, it remained gold and brightened up a bit. I also tested it for 10K & 14K gold and it appears to test for 10K gold, and not 14K, although I don't always trust my testing skills, so I should probably do it again.
It is marked 835 and has a makers mark, but I can't quite make out what it is.
Is this type of link just called an "S" link?
    Thanks for your time.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The mark kind of looks like a fleur de lis to me. It's hard to tell, though.

I suspect it is Euripean and silver gilt. 835 is not a regular fraction for gold, it would be finer than 18 Carat which is unlikely and would feel quite heavy in hand, distinctively so. ( I have occasionally found high carat gold items just by the feel of them, so much heavier than they looked)

Unless filed off, gilding will test as gold, you have to get below the surface.

You all are so wonderful thank you Fig, Komokwa & Af. I assumed it was silver, but just had to double check. I will take your advice Af, and see if I can file it down somewhere.
Any ideas on the type of link? Maybe it's a common link, I just haven't found any like it yet.
    Thanks all!:):)

I've seen it called "snail link" ... probably not its official name, though.

835 gold would be slightly over 20k, because 20k is 833. I have never heard of 835 gold, but love anything to do with gold jewellery, so I would be interested to know more.
I too come from a country where low gold grades are not sold, simply because it is not legally gold. 14k is ok here, but most gold is 18k or higher.
I know 875 gold is used in the Gulf States and India, but this mark is 835.
