My wife and I are avid Antique Collectors. We have a few categories of Antiques that we like to collect. My wife likes Antique Medical stuff and I collect Antique Telephones. We have some misc stuff as most do. I am getting my grandmothers Maple Acorn Poster Bed w/Quilt Rail and matching dresser soon. The dresser is small maybe five foot wide. It has a detachable mirror with two Posts that hold the mirror and allow it to tilt. It has two drwawers on either side and a center drawer, and matching bench. Don't have any pictures yet, but as soon as I do I will post. It was sold circa, 1915 from McIntire Furniture & Funeral Home in Wooster, Ohio. It was completely refinished about 25 years ago to match the original finish. Would be interested in any thoughts on what is worth today. Thanks and look forward to the Forum.
Welcome, Jeff! Sounds like a nice set to receive! When you get pictures, your best bet for information and comments is to start a new thread in the Furniture Forum. Many "specialist" members only visit the category forum(s) of greatest interest to them and they will miss requests for information posted in Introductions.
Hi and welcome! I have two wall mount pay phones, one is Canadian. Some others too including an original dial Mickey Mouse in his box that I bought new back then and a Spiderman on the rooftop too but missing its receiver cord. ~ Check your messages for photo help and more shortly.
Just curious but . . . did the words "McIntire Furniture & Funeral Home (emphasis added)" make any others here pause in what they were reading? I certainly paused when I read it. Thank goodness DH was around to "explain" it to me. He thinks because McIntire Furniture (probably) worked with "wooden" furniture that it also manufactured and/or sold wooden boxes for burials way back then in 1915. Do other people here think that might be true?
I'm thinking this is probably the story here: The McIntire Funeral Home started in 1902 when A.C. McIntire became associated with the Christine Brothers Funeral Parlor, then operating in rooms above the McIntire Furniture Store. from: http://www.mcintirebradhamsleek.com/about/history
You guys are right about McIntire Furniture and Funeral Home. I know this to be the fact, as I was Born in Wooster, Ohio. Unfortunately my mother passed away on July 25th 2011 and the service was at McIntire Funeral Home. With that said I spoke to father this evening. The Vanity and Bed are Kling Maple 205 and the Mirror is a 208. The paper tags show that it was made in Plant 2, Brocton NY. I should have the set in about 45 days. Will post pics when then arrive.
Looks like Kling - I have a mahogany 5 piece suite by them. Somehow they are the predecessors of Ethan Allen..............but I forget who bought/owned who first.............................My set was purchased in either 1909 or 1929.....................the marriage certificate that would confirm the date is long gone................
Somehow they are the predecessors of Ethan Allen There's a decent little history of the company here: http://www.klinginfo.com/h1
