Featured Need help to identify this piece

Could anyone advise on this piece? It's very small 14" x 8" and could have possibly been made in Germany. The reason I say this is because when I first bought it, there was a piece of old newspaper folded to assist holding the mirror in place. It was of German origin and although there wasn't much paper, the handwriting was in a calliagraphy font. I tried to translate what I could but didn't reveal anything that made much sense.
It's an interesting piece, intricately hand carved in a dark wood. Would love to determine its age and potential value.

 

Possibly BlackForest hall mirror, late 19th C. Rather unfashionable at present.

 

Agreed, Black Forest. Your newspaper was probably in the old Hoch Deutsch font, which went after WW2.

Keep it for awhile. It's not a cheap piece of wood.

 

I'll be honest, it went t the tip yesterday with various other bits and pieces. I have had to perform an emergency clear out as I'm so restricted on space. I probably should of kept hold of that regardless, as it hardly took up much space. Nevermind

 

Arg. That would have sold at my local auction for thirty to fifty all day long.

No charity shops locally? At least then it wouldn't be landfill.

Actually, no. I thought I had put it in one of the boxes I filled with junk and took to the tip yesterday. However, found out this evening that my partner had placed it in a bag with some other bits and put it back into the cupboard, and so I still have it and will be including it in my list of items that i'm sending to auction
